Safe Swim Defense and Safty Afloat Training
The Boy Scouts of America requires that any aquatics activity be conducted in a safe manner. The first step in doing this is well trained leadership. If this is the first time you are taking this training, the Council Training Committee encourages you to attend an instructor led session to allow for discussion and questions.
About the Online training
It is recommended that Safe Swim Defense be completed prior to Safety Afloat. Each module takes 20 to 30 minutes to complete. You will need to supply your name and Council name (Golden Spread) and you will be tested at the end of each module.

Upon successful completion of the test you will be able to print a “trained” card and either a “Safe Swim Defense Commitment “or a “Nine Points of the Safety Alfoat Program” certificate. (Hint: Use card stock if you want a durable version of the card that you can laminate.) Carry the card with you when involved in aquatics activities.
For over three quarters of a century, the Boy Scouts of America
has worked to develop the character, citizenship, and personal fitness of America 's youth - and to do it safely! As a major youth-serving organization, the Boy Scouts of America has a unique opportunity to help protect the youth of our nation while participating in aquatic activities.
Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat Training is required to be updated every two years.
